Laser Treatment - This is the most effective removal method that exists today. It is very expensive, but the cost depends on the size and color of the tattoo. This method is somewhat painful and can cause scarring.

Creams - This is the least expensive and removes the tattoo slowly over time. Some people use the cream for some time period and then elect the laser treatment method after the tattoo has faded to an acceptable level.

Acid Removal - There are several different acid methods that are effective in tattoo removal. Some acid removal methods are trichloroacetic acid and the Glycolic acid peel. Both methods are effective over time by slowly fading the tattoo.

The benefits of laser technology are optimal for people seeking to remove a tattoo. The light energy of the lasers is able to penetrate the skin and effectively remove the permanent ink that lies underneath the outer layer of skin. When directed at the ink, the energy of the laser will cause your body to break down and absorb the pigment, removing the tattoo. No incisions are made in the procedure, and the patient will not bleed.

Laser ink removal is slightly uncomfortable, however the procedure is quick and the patient is generally treated with a local anesthetic to numb the area and reduce the pain. The entire session usually lasts between 2-3 minutes, depending on the size and location of the tattoo. The process is not instant, however, and generally patients will undergo a series of 5-15 visits until the tattoo is entirely removed.

Tattoo Removal in Houston has become a medical treatment that many people are discussing. It involves several cutting-edge topics - America's new obsession with tattooing, advances in medical technology, and aesthetic treatments to improve the look and function of the skin. Many Houston patients are curious how long it will take them to remove a tattoo. They may have a wedding coming up and they need to remove the name of an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend before they walk down the aisle with Mr. Right. They might think about summer coming up and they want to walk down the beach without having to think about their faded rose tattoo they got years ago.

Statistics state that almost half of those over eighteen to forty have at least one tattoo on their body. Unfortunately many individuals who have chosen to receive a tattoo on their body decide after the fact that they do not want it anymore. Usually this is because the recipient is unsatisfied with the tattoo they were given. This has drastically increased the number of individuals that decide to have their tattoo or tattoos removed.

A lot of the time the ink used during application of an individual's tattoos can cause infection. This is because oftentimes tattoo parlors fail to use regulated ink, and they use this inferior ink to tattoo their customers. It is also very important to make sure the tattoo parlor you choose uses clean equipment. Many people fail to properly research the tattoo parlor and get their tattoos on the fly. Unclean equipment can lead to such diseases as hepatitis B, or hepatitis C, and a host of other infections and diseases caused from unclean needles.

Study Suggests a More Personalized Approach to Tattoo Removal

Dr Ramona Bates of Suture for a Living points us to a recent study in Archives of Dermatology that looked into correlating which laser wavelengths were best for removing different tattoo inks. The team of Spanish researchers blasted 21 tattoo inks with laser light ranging from 300 to 800 nm, and discovered that there's a benefit to matching the color of the laser to the specific ink that is being removed.

Tattoo Removal Options

You have probably read countless articles and information regarding the painful process of how to remove a tattoo, well friend I am here to tell you that everything you read is true, but there are better options. Getting inked was painful so why shouldn't the removal process be just as painful? Tattoo ink seeps down into the second layers of skin and imbeds itself into your skin cells making it very difficult to break up and remove. Though the process might take time and much pain it is a possible one. Removal options are:

Laser removal- painful but effective choice where a concentrated laser pulsates the skin reaching down into the second layer of skin to break up the ink. This can be very expensive.

Dermabrasion- is similar to that of a chemical face peel. The layers of skin are peeled back over a series of visits removing layers and fragments of ink as it goes.

Excision- has the ability to remove the tattoo in one surgical sitting. A chemical is sprayed onto your skin and freezes the skin allowing the tattooed skin to be cut out. This can be painful and bleeding can occur. Take note that depending on the size of the tattoo a skin graft might be needed from somewhere else on your body. This is a dangerous procedure and should only be used as a last resort.

Combo Treatment (least painful)- Products like Wrecking Balm use a combination of clinically tested formulas with FDA approved tools to gradually fade a tattoo. This is the least painful option and can also be the least expensive. Thousands of people have had amazing results with this product.

This is so gross! I am having a really hard time to get the treated area to heal. The outside, the arm and a little bit of the head of the fairy has scabbed, but everything else is basically an open wound. This hurts REALLY bad. I have been ever increasingly concerned about infection, so last night I rinsed it with saline, and put Betadine on it (the brownish tint to my skin). Its really hard to keep it covered because the bandage will stick to the wound, even when I ‘tent’ the bandage, this really hurts too because than I have to rip off the bandage.

Now, this may be a good thing. This is pretty gross too! When I remove my bandages I have been noticing that the color has been draining out of the area.

This is a typical bandage. As you can see there is black and orange in it. Sorry, I know this is so gross. But, if anyone else is going through this, I think it is beneficial to post EVERYTHING that is going on during my use of Nuviderm. There is less color to my tattoo at this point, I just really need the area to start healing up, or I may have to go to the doctor. I think I’ll give it another week or two (I don’t have health insurance, so doctor visits are very last on my agenda).

Tattoos are often associated with fashion trends and stylishness, and regarded as a garment, yet they are supposed to be your companions for life and thus choosing them should be done with utmost care. They often outlast marriages and just as often outlast the element that fueled people’s desire to get them. Many people get tattooed in their late teens or early adulthood, while they are still searching for beliefs to adhere to and for their own place in the world – that is how some end up with quotes or symbols of political doctrines or any type of ideological movements, which they might later grow out of. Other people tattoo their partner’s name on their bodies, to later regret it when the break-up or divorce occurs.

Research has shown that nearly half of those between the ages of 18 and 40 have a tattoo or several tattoos. The problem here is that a majority of those who have tattoos have later decided that they don’t want them anymore. The biggest complaint to tattoos is dissatisfaction, which has led to a recent increase in tattoo removal. It’s been proven in the past that women research their removal options more than men – due to the fact that men have less of a stigma when it comes to tattoos.

  • TCA (Trichloracetic acid) peels are a cosmetic treatment used to remove fine wrinkles, acne scars, age spots and other skin blemishes and is a very effective method of tattoo removal. A solution containing around 20% TCA is applied directly over the tattoo. This causes a controlled inflammation to the top layers of the skin, which will begin to peel away about a week after the treatment, revealing a new layer, which has formed underneath. With each peel, the ink is gradually broken up and moved toward the surface with the newly formed skin. This new skin will be sensitive for the first few weeks. You will need to wait between 4 and 6 weeks between peels, and protect It from the sun until it is fully healed. If you have darker skin, the treated area may appear lighter after a peel, but will soon return to normal.
  • Tattoo removal creams. Although more expensive than TCA, they offer a gentler alternative, with no discomfort, peeling or scabbing. Depending on which brand you choose, they come as a kit containing either two or three different creams. Applied daily, they gradually fade the tattoo by breaking up the ink, which is then absorbed harmlessly into the body. How long it takes the tattoo to fade away will depend on the color and the depth of the ink. Lighter colors will tend to fade away quicker than darker colors.

1).TCA Tattoo Removal

  • TCA is a cosmetic acid commonly used for facial peels, removal or reduction of acne scars, warts, and other facial blemishes.
  • It has been used as a tattoo removal products for the past 30 years.
  • TCA is the only home ink removal product that has has been thoroughly tested in two medical studies and proven to be effective as a tatoo removal product in the vast majority of the test subjects.
  • The first TCA tatoo removal medical study was performed from 1979 to1984 using 670 volunteer patients. At the end of the study, 85% of the test subjects were satisfied with their results.
  • The second TCA tattoo removal medical study was performed using 40 volunteers from May 1988 through February of 1989. At the end of the study, participants reported a 90% satisfactory rate.

  • 2).Tattoo Removal Cream.

  • There is no known tattoo removal cream medical study proving the effectiveness of tattoo removal cream as a way to remove tattoo pigment. If such a study existed every manufacturer would be using it to market their product.
  • Many tattoo removal cream product manufacturers use the lure of a no pain, easy to apply, once or twice daily tattoo removal process that is simple, easy, and more affordable than laser surgery. They, of course, neglect to tell you that a simple tattoo removal cream, by itself, probably will not remove a tattoo.
  • Most tattoo ink removal cream products have one thing in common, most contain a skin pigment fading, or melanin inhibiting, chemical as a main ingredient in their product.
  • This skin pigment fading chemical fades the skin pigment above the tattoo and not the tattoo pigment itself, which is located in the second layer of skin called the dermis.
  • A tattoo removal cream, by itself, does not physically remove a tattoo because it cannot penetrate the skin deep enough to reach the location of the tattoo pigment

Can All Tattoos Be Removed?

Tattoo Removal Review - Easier Tattoo Removal

It is estimated that more than 45 million Americans have at least 1 tattoo. Recent polling indicates that approximately 50% of all men and women under the age of 25 have a tattoo, but about 20% of all people with a tattoo regret getting it and are looking for a form of tattoo removal.

Laser technology has made significant advances in recent years, but it still requires several visits and hundreds to thousands of dollars to remove a tattoo via laser, depending on the size and colors used in the design. Nuviderm has never made a secret of the fact that we always recommend laser removal if it is within your budget and we, of coarse, recommend Nuviderm if Laser is to expensive.

If you read our blog with any regularity you will also know that we constantly warn against using so called tattoo removal creams because they don’t work, cost to much for what you get (soft skin where you apply it) and tattoo cream manufacturer warranties are either non existent or so full of loop holes as to be worthless. Tattoo removal creams are nothing more than a basic cosmetic with skin pigment fading chemicals included to fade the skin above the tattoo, but not the tattoo itself.
