Three Ways to Remove a Tattoo
Laser Ink Removal For Tattoos
The benefits of laser technology are optimal for people seeking to remove a tattoo. The light energy of the lasers is able to penetrate the skin and effectively remove the permanent ink that lies underneath the outer layer of skin. When directed at the ink, the energy of the laser will cause your body to break down and absorb the pigment, removing the tattoo. No incisions are made in the procedure, and the patient will not bleed.
Laser ink removal is slightly uncomfortable, however the procedure is quick and the patient is generally treated with a local anesthetic to numb the area and reduce the pain. The entire session usually lasts between 2-3 minutes, depending on the size and location of the tattoo. The process is not instant, however, and generally patients will undergo a series of 5-15 visits until the tattoo is entirely removed.

Laser Tattoo Removal
Tattoo Removal in Houston has become a medical treatment that many people are discussing. It involves several cutting-edge topics - America's new obsession with tattooing, advances in medical technology, and aesthetic treatments to improve the look and function of the skin. Many Houston patients are curious how long it will take them to remove a tattoo. They may have a wedding coming up and they need to remove the name of an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend before they walk down the aisle with Mr. Right. They might think about summer coming up and they want to walk down the beach without having to think about their faded rose tattoo they got years ago.
Laser Tattoo Removal
- Age and location of the tattoo
- Depth and color of the ink
- Patient’s skin type (natural color of the skin)
- The strength of the patient’s immune system
- The laser technician’s knowledge and experience
These factors, combined, all play a major role in the tattoo removal process. When it comes to removing a tattoo, the most advanced laser system is only half of the equation. Perhaps, the most important element is the person who operates the laser and performs your treatment. Here at Griffin Plastic Surgery we not only use the gold standard in technology, but we have one of the most experienced laser technicians in South Carolina. Griffin Plastic Surgery's laser technician, Jonathan D. Gardner, has been safely and effectively removing tattoos for over a decade.
Jonathan has performed thousands of laser treatments and is considered an expert among his peers in the aesthetic medical community.
Jonathan works with our on-staff team of physicians to help you develop and customize a treatment strategy that suits your goals –either for complete removal — or for lightening an existing tattoo (so that you can cover it with more artwork).

Study Suggests a More Personalized Approach to Tattoo Removal
Dr Ramona Bates of Suture for a Living points us to a recent study in Archives of Dermatology that looked into correlating which laser wavelengths were best for removing different tattoo inks. The team of Spanish researchers blasted 21 tattoo inks with laser light ranging from 300 to 800 nm, and discovered that there's a benefit to matching the color of the laser to the specific ink that is being removed.

Tattoo Removal
Tattoo Removal- TCA (Trichloracetic acid) peels are a cosmetic treatment used to remove fine wrinkles, acne scars, age spots and other skin blemishes and is a very effective method of tattoo removal. A solution containing around 20% TCA is applied directly over the tattoo. This causes a controlled inflammation to the top layers of the skin, which will begin to peel away about a week after the treatment, revealing a new layer, which has formed underneath. With each peel, the ink is gradually broken up and moved toward the surface with the newly formed skin. This new skin will be sensitive for the first few weeks. You will need to wait between 4 and 6 weeks between peels, and protect It from the sun until it is fully healed. If you have darker skin, the treated area may appear lighter after a peel, but will soon return to normal.
- Tattoo removal creams. Although more expensive than TCA, they offer a gentler alternative, with no discomfort, peeling or scabbing. Depending on which brand you choose, they come as a kit containing either two or three different creams. Applied daily, they gradually fade the tattoo by breaking up the ink, which is then absorbed harmlessly into the body. How long it takes the tattoo to fade away will depend on the color and the depth of the ink. Lighter colors will tend to fade away quicker than darker colors.

- TCA is a cosmetic acid commonly used for facial peels, removal or reduction of acne scars, warts, and other facial blemishes.
- It has been used as a tattoo removal products for the past 30 years.
- TCA is the only home ink removal product that has has been thoroughly tested in two medical studies and proven to be effective as a tatoo removal product in the vast majority of the test subjects.
- The first TCA tatoo removal medical study was performed from 1979 to1984 using 670 volunteer patients. At the end of the study, 85% of the test subjects were satisfied with their results.
- The second TCA tattoo removal medical study was performed using 40 volunteers from May 1988 through February of 1989. At the end of the study, participants reported a 90% satisfactory rate.

2).Tattoo Removal Cream.
- There is no known tattoo removal cream medical study proving the effectiveness of tattoo removal cream as a way to remove tattoo pigment. If such a study existed every manufacturer would be using it to market their product.
- Many tattoo removal cream product manufacturers use the lure of a no pain, easy to apply, once or twice daily tattoo removal process that is simple, easy, and more affordable than laser surgery. They, of course, neglect to tell you that a simple tattoo removal cream, by itself, probably will not remove a tattoo.
- Most tattoo ink removal cream products have one thing in common, most contain a skin pigment fading, or melanin inhibiting, chemical as a main ingredient in their product.
- This skin pigment fading chemical fades the skin pigment above the tattoo and not the tattoo pigment itself, which is located in the second layer of skin called the dermis.
- A tattoo removal cream, by itself, does not physically remove a tattoo because it cannot penetrate the skin deep enough to reach the location of the tattoo pigment

Tattoo Removal Review - Easier Tattoo Removal
It is estimated that more than 45 million Americans have at least 1 tattoo. Recent polling indicates that approximately 50% of all men and women under the age of 25 have a tattoo, but about 20% of all people with a tattoo regret getting it and are looking for a form of tattoo removal.
Laser technology has made significant advances in recent years, but it still requires several visits and hundreds to thousands of dollars to remove a tattoo via laser, depending on the size and colors used in the design. Nuviderm has never made a secret of the fact that we always recommend laser removal if it is within your budget and we, of coarse, recommend Nuviderm if Laser is to expensive.
If you read our blog with any regularity you will also know that we constantly warn against using so called tattoo removal creams because they don’t work, cost to much for what you get (soft skin where you apply it) and tattoo cream manufacturer warranties are either non existent or so full of loop holes as to be worthless. Tattoo removal creams are nothing more than a basic cosmetic with skin pigment fading chemicals included to fade the skin above the tattoo, but not the tattoo itself.
